Great TV Not a Must Have.

Great TV Not a Must Have.
Best viewing experience is when streaming videos. Watching DVD's 1080p or below looks very bad. Gaming is great on the TV. Upgrading from Samsung 65 inch 4K TV to Samsung 85 inch 8K TV after almost 1 month of use I can say you dont have to upgrade your 4K TV. The visual experience not much different, but if every pixel matters than yes. Only negatives I got is the TV came with 2 white marks on the back panel. Amazon includes moving and unboxing of TV to one room location, but I chose to unbox myself. Takes 2 person to mount TV or setup the TV stand.

Samsung captive environment wanting money for marginal apps that don’t work where most $400 tvs come with functions built in. A good example of them is forcing you to buy a TV cast app that doesn’t work with any automation (echo or Google home) and the app doesn’t work.

Every other TV I have that has been purchased in the past 5 years has Chromecast built in. Some executives great MBA exercise of how to eek out an extra dollar from their clients putting a distaste in their customers mouths. I won’t buy a Samsung again, I should of known better as I got rid of a Samsung Galaxy phone for the same reason where Samsung apps and others have to be in the middle of everything.

Otherwise the clarity is ok for an 8k TV, the built in audio is garbage and muffled in comparison with other TVs for 1/5 the cost. I suppose if you buy at TV for 5k you are probably having external speakers but don’t count on not setting up external speakers immediately if you want to hear even a news anchor.

Another MBA exercise of Samsung executives, you can’t even have a fire place screen saver without advertisements coming up for 2-3 minutes. Seriously ridiculous on how the corporation gets to eek out another few pennies for today’s profits while destroying the user experience and brand.

Sworn off of Samsung TVs.

This is the most amazing TV I’ve ever seen. The picture quality is unbelievable. Mounting was pretty easy and setting up the soundbar and wireless surround speakers couldn’t be easier.

Television’s picture is absolutely phenomenal and sets a very high bar for brightness. Assembly of the stand was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL though (thus the 3 stars, you pay this much for a product, you’d think the assembly would be trouble free). I think it was slightly tweaked somehow and the clearances are so tight that it took about an hour just to get JUST the right angle so that one of the screws would actually catch. Now that the stand is on there though, I don’t know that it will ever come off because of how tweaked the steel plates seem to be and I’m trying to wall mount it now (new house and we changed our minds on where we wanted it). We’ll see how this goes.

If, like me, you thought that buying the best TV in the lineup would ensure the most trouble free experience, think again. This TV worked for 2 weeks perfectly in our entertainment cabinet, then without any reason or change, decided to stop turning on. All it does now is alternate a blue screen of death with black screen for 3 relay cycles over 15 seconds, then off. I spent an hour with Samsung troubleshooting everything I had already done multiple times (they assume you’re an idiot) and that’s an hour of my life I’d love back. At the end they offered to give me information to contact a repair person to visit my home and work on my brand new, only 2 week old, 4 thousand dollar TV. I said how about sending me a new one (or even an offer to send just the “Smart Connect” box to try to fix what seems obviously faulty) and they said that this is all they can do. So now I’m supposed to have saved the original box (remember it’s been 2 weeks of working perfectly) to send it back to Amazon as defective?! Huge mistake to buy this Tv, and to buy from Amazon.

Do yourself a favor and buy something less fancy (I’m going to do a 4K next) at Costco so you can drive it back when it breaks. And hopefully find a brand that lasts longer than 2 weeks.

UPDATE: I shipped this TV back to Amazon on January 16th. They told me I would get my $3,556 return processed by Feb 8th and then a week later would get my credit card funded. Well the 8th came and they moved it to 2/11, the eleventh came and they moved it to 15th, and each time I’d contact support. Everytime they can’t help and just say “too bad, it might take up to 60 days”. Then it went to today 2/17, and the message now says “it’s stuck in processing, refund not issued. But don’t worry our customer service team will help you with your return.” But once again they do nothing but say it might be another month and they can’t do anything.

FINAL UPDATE: I contacted my credit card company and processed a “a company won’t credit me for merchandise I returned” claim with them. They temporarily credited me back the $3,556 around 2/20. Then Amazon sent me an email saying something to the effect of “now your purchase no longer qualifies for A to Z Guarantee ((good!)), did you mean to report us ((yeah, did I get your attention?!)), you should undo it ((uh, no)).
Finally on March 3rd, I got an email from Amazon saying they processed the return. Now I’ll likely have to deal with the credit card thing getting reversed back etc. What a mess, but if you’re OK with 2 months to get your money back, maybe Amazon TV’s are for you.

But seriously, in closing, Amazon will NOT treat you right on big dollar refunds so learn from my mistake and don’t trust them to treat you like a human being and return what is due to you. I’m very happy with my Costco purchase which came with a 5 year warranty and if anything is ever wrong along the way, they’ll hand me a stack of c-notes in exchange without question and immediately.
